2. Borusan Contemporary
Borusan Contemporary is not just a gallery; it is a full contemporary art ecosystem built around the Borusan Contemporary Art Collection. 3. Hope Alkazar
What happens when one of Istanbul’s most storied cinemas starts dreaming in data, memory, and artificial intelligence? You get Alkazar Dream, a two-part project by Refik Anadol Studio inside HOPE Alkazar. The old Alkazar Cinema already had history baked into its walls, but this immersive installation turns that memory into something futuristic, layered, and slightly hypnotic. Using artificial neural networks and advanced AI technologies, the work transforms architecture and archival traces into a sensory experience that feels less like “looking at art” and more like stepping inside a cinematic brain. 4. Istanbul Modern
Istanbul Modern is the big name, the grand entrance, the “yes, we probably should start here” stop on any Istanbul art route. Founded in Karaköy in 2004 as Turkey’s first modern and contemporary art museum, Istanbul Modern has played a major role in presenting the country’s artistic creativity and cultural identity to both local and international audiences. 9. PG Art Gallery
PG Art Gallery has serious Istanbul art-scene credentials. Founded by Pırıl Güleşçi Arıkonmaz in Bebek in 1993, it holds a special place in the development of contemporary art in the city. 14. Anna Laudel Contemporary
Set inside an impressive five-story historic building, Anna Laudel offers one of the most atmospheric gallery visits in Istanbul. Based on Bankalar Street in Karaköy, the gallery presents works by Turkish and international artists while hosting a steady program of interdisciplinary readings, artist talks, conversations, and cultural events. It also includes an art store, which is dangerous if you are the kind of person who says “I’ll just browse” and then leaves emotionally attached to an object. Alongside its Istanbul space, Anna Laudel expanded internationally with a second gallery in Düsseldorf, opened in 2019.
