2. Jnane Elisabeth at Es Saadi: a collector’s paradise

Jnane Elisabeth at Es Saadi Marrakech

Founded in 1952 by Jean Bauchet, the visionary former director of the Moulin Rouge, Es Saadi – “the Blessed” in Arabic – is a historic institution in Marrakech. Transformed into a resort a few years ago, it sprawls across a lush eight-hectare garden , encompassing its palace, ksars (traditional Moroccan dwellings), and private villas. Legendary Moroccan hospitality continues here, under the management of the same family, who have, over the years, made it a true haven of art in the heart of the Hivernage district . To be convinced, one need only step through the doors of the palace, a treasure trove of Moroccan craftsmanship housed beneath a majestic dome worthy of the Arabian Nights: from the lobby to the rooms, and throughout the corridors, the Bauchet-Bouhlal family’s personal collection unfolds: photographs, paintings, and sculptures, each accompanied by its own label.

Since 2025, visitors have also been able to explore Jnane Elisabeth , a space showcasing the personal favorites of Elisabeth Bauchet-Bouhlal , a passionate collector of Moroccan art. On the mezzanine level, the exhibition “From Marocco with Love” brings together nearly 130 works, from 1960 to the present day, by 65 major artists, tracing the evolution of modern and contemporary Moroccan art . Here, one can admire the post-independence modernity of Ahmed Cherkaoui and Jilali Gharbaoui, the vibrant pop culture of Hassan Hajjaj , and the energy of a new generation , such as the Franco-Moroccan artist Sara Ouhaddou , who is redefining the country’s artistic identity.

The World of Adornment Arts in Marrakech

Presenting nearly 3,000 pieces (out of a total of 7,000), the collection assembled by Marlène and Paolo Gallone, and exhibited at the World of Adornment Arts, reveals ornaments, jewelry, textiles , and other objects rich in symbolism, worn throughout the ages and across the globe, from Africa to Asia, by way of Europe.
