Travel writing based on first-hand experience
Planning a holiday in Cyprus but not sure where to stay? We get it. Cyprus looks easy on the map — one island, lots of sunshine, problem solved, right? Not quite. Choose the wrong base and suddenly your dreamy beach escape comes with surprise driving marathons, rocky beaches when you wanted sand, or nightlife when you wanted peace and a book.
We’ve travelled across Cyprus and pulled together our favourite unique hotels in Cyprus for this guide: beach resorts, adults-only hideaways, boutique mountain stays, stylish city hotels, and cosy apartments that actually make sense if you are travelling as a family.
Keep planning your Cyprus stay
Cyprus has a sneaky talent for making accommodation feel like part of the adventure: beach resorts with serious sea-view confidence, boutique hideaways tucked into old towns, family apartments with actual breathing room, and romantic stays that practically demand sunset drinks. Once you have found your perfect base, these Cyprus guides help you build the rest of the trip around it — beaches, restaurants, road trips, hidden corners, and the kind of island detours that make “we’ll keep it simple” sound adorable.

1. The Most Unique Hotels in Cyprus for a Beach Holiday
Let’s start with the big Cyprus question: where should we actually stay if we want a proper beach holiday? Cyprus may look compact on a map, but choosing the wrong base can turn your dreamy island escape into a sweaty car-based lifestyle. Nobody came here to live inside Google Maps.
For a classic beach holiday, we would focus on these three areas. Each has its own personality, perks, and tiny annoyances — because apparently paradise also needs admin.
- Paphos: The best mix of beach, culture, ancient sites, and easy day trips.
- Ayia Napa: Cyprus’s most famous seaside resort, with some of the island’s most beautiful sandy beaches.
- Limassol: A modern coastal city with several excellent luxury hotels nearby, especially if you want a central base for exploring.

Good to Know: The Division of Cyprus
Before we start hotel-hunting like professional sunbed detectives, it helps to know one important thing: Cyprus has been divided for decades.
- Greek-speaking south: Part of the EU, with the strongest tourist infrastructure and the most popular holiday resorts. Paphos, Ayia Napa, and Limassol are all in the south.
- Turkish-speaking north: Often called Northern Cyprus. It is occupied by Turkey, EU law does not apply there in practice, and travel can feel more adventurous but also more complicated.
Our hotel recommendations focus only on the Greek-speaking south. That said, if you visit Nicosia, you can cross into the Turkish-speaking north for a short side trip and get a fascinating glimpse of the island’s divided history.
One Home Base or Multiple Location Changes?
If your plan is a classic beach holiday, we would usually stay in one place and properly settle in. Pick the right base, unpack once, find your favourite beach, repeat. Revolutionary? No. Blissful? Absolutely.
For our own trip, we chose a road trip through the south of Cyprus and stayed in five different places. That worked beautifully for exploring, but it is not what we would recommend if your main goal is sun, sea, pool, and refusing to move more than medically necessary.

2. Unique Hotels in Paphos

Paphos may be the most charming holiday base in Cyprus. Sitting in the far west of the island, it gives us that lovely “a bit of everything” situation: beaches, harbour walks, archaeological sites, coastal views, and easy access to some of Cyprus’s best nature spots. Basically, if you want culture with your beach towel, Paphos is already waving politely.
Advantages of Paphos
- Perfect for combining beach time and culture.
- Several archaeological sites sit in and around Paphos, so history lovers will not be bored.
- Some of Cyprus’s best natural highlights are easy to reach, including Avakas Gorge and Aphrodite’s Rock.
- The promenade and harbour have a pleasant, relaxed holiday atmosphere.
Disadvantages of Paphos
- There are relatively few sandy beaches; many beaches are rocky, stony, or pebbly. Some hotels do offer excellent sandy beach access, though.
- Paphos is in the far west of Cyprus, so day trips to places like Nicosia or Ayia Napa can feel a bit ambitious. And by ambitious, we mean “why are we still in the car?”

Unique Hotels in Paphos
- Cap St Georges Hotel & Resort (Luxury): One of the most exclusive hotels in Cyprus, with a seafront setting, a private sandy beach, outdoor pools, a heated indoor pool, kids’ club, spa facilities, and full resort polish. The only catch? It is fairly secluded, about a 30-minute drive north of Paphos, so come here for the resort bubble, not spontaneous city strolls.

- Amavi, MadeForTwo Hotels (Luxury): A beautiful adults-only hotel directly on the beach in Paphos. It is perfect for couples who want a polished, romantic stay with easy promenade access, sunset walks, and no tiny humans cannonballing into the pool. Sometimes peace is the luxury.

- Loft Centrale (mid-range): Cosy, central apartments in Paphos, just a few minutes’ walk from the sea. With kitchens, extra space, and access to a pool in the neighbouring building, they are a smart choice for families or anyone who likes hotel comfort but also wants fridge privileges. Very important, that.

3. Unique Hotels in Ayia Napa

Ayia Napa is Cyprus’s headline-grabbing seaside resort. Hotels line the coast, beach clubs hum along, and the town centre has long been the island’s party capital. But do not dismiss it too quickly if nightlife is not your thing. The beaches around Ayia Napa are genuinely gorgeous — fine pale sand, clear water, and that “yes, this is why we flew here” feeling.
Advantages of Ayia Napa
- Some of the most beautiful beaches in Cyprus are in and around Ayia Napa, including Nissi Beach.
- You get fine, light-coloured sand and clear, gently sloping water — excellent for swimming.
- Several major day-trip spots are nearby, including Cape Greco, Larnaca, and Nicosia.
Disadvantages of Ayia Napa
- It is the most touristy holiday resort in Cyprus.
- Parts of the coastline are heavily built up, with one hotel complex after another.
- There is plenty of party tourism in central Ayia Napa. Great if you want it. Less great if your dream holiday involves silence and herbal tea.
- You are in the far east of Cyprus, so places in the Paphos region, such as Aphrodite’s Rock, are too far for an easy day trip.

Unique Hotels in Ayia Napa
- Alion Beach Hotel (Luxury): A polished beachfront hotel in Ayia Napa, but away from the rowdier party scene. It has everything we want from a relaxed beach holiday: sandy beach access, pools, calm interiors, good service, and that “we are not moving far today” atmosphere. Ideal if you came to Cyprus mainly to swim, sunbathe, and behave like a professional lounger.

- Sirena Bay Beach House (mid-range): A lovely boutique-style stay by the beach in Protaras, Ayia Napa’s calmer neighbour. The rooms have an easy boho feel, the property is well kept, and the location works beautifully for exploring eastern Cyprus, especially if you want beach access without sleeping in the middle of Ayia Napa’s nightlife machine.

- Nissi Beach Resort (Upper mid-range): A classic beachfront resort on one of Cyprus’s most famous beaches. Nissi Beach is bright, beautiful, and wildly popular, so this is the place to book if you want the beach almost on your doorstep and do not mind sharing the scenery with plenty of other sunseekers.

4. Unique Hotels in Limassol

Limassol is a very different Cyprus base. It is less “tiny island postcard” and more “modern coastal city with restaurants, towers, business hotels, nightlife, and a small old town trying its best.” Would we choose it for the dreamiest beach-only escape? Probably not. Would we choose it as a convenient, urban base with luxury hotels and good road-trip access? Absolutely.
Advantages of Limassol
- Centrally located on the south coast, making it one of the best bases for exploring different parts of Cyprus by car.
- Urban energy with a strong restaurant scene, bars, shops, and a modern marina area.
Disadvantages of Limassol
- Limassol can feel like a modern metropolis rather than a charming beach town. There is a small old town, but the overall mood is more city than village.
- The city beach is not ideal for a classic beach holiday. If swimming and sand are your priority, choose a hotel with a proper beach area outside the main urban stretch.

Unique Hotel Picks in Limassol
- Four Seasons Limassol (Luxury): One of the most popular luxury hotels in Cyprus. The building itself may not win a beauty pageant, but the hotel experience is excellent: private sandy beach, polished service, immaculate grounds, great breakfast, pools, restaurants, and a central south-coast location. Perfect if you want luxury comfort and easy day-trip access.

- Amara Hotel (Luxury): A stylish, contemporary luxury hotel about a 20-minute drive outside central Limassol. The design is modern but warm, the rooms feel elegant, and the whole place has that “we are absolutely treating ourselves” energy. Ideal for a memorable coastal stay with a softer, more refined mood than central Limassol.

- White City Limassol (mid-range): Tastefully furnished apartments in central Limassol. They are not the best choice for a classic beach holiday, because the city beach is not exactly “postcard paradise,” but they work well if you want urban convenience, more space, and a rooftop pool. Good for travellers who want to eat, wander, and explore rather than collapse on a private beach every day.

5. Unique Hotels in the Interior of Cyprus

Cyprus is not only beaches, cocktails, and the heroic search for the perfect sunbed. The interior is full of mountain villages, monasteries, vineyards, old stone houses, divided-city history, and landscapes that make you wonder why everyone keeps sprinting back to the coast so quickly.
If you have more than a beach week planned, we would add at least one inland stop. These two make the most sense:
- Nicosia: Cyprus’s divided capital, with an easy side trip into Northern Cyprus.
- Troodos Mountains: Cyprus’s largest mountain range, ideal for hiking, wine villages, monasteries, churches, and fresh air that does not smell like sunscreen.
Unique Hotels in Nicosia
Nicosia is the capital of Cyprus and the only divided capital city in the world. The south is Greek-speaking, while the north is the Turkish-controlled part of the city. Walking between the two sides is one of the most fascinating things you can do in Cyprus, especially if you like cities with layers, contradictions, and a little bit of emotional whiplash.
- Culturally fascinating, with both halves of the city feeling noticeably different.
- Perfect for getting a first impression of Northern Cyprus.
- Works as a day trip from Limassol or Ayia Napa, but an overnight stay gives you more time to actually absorb the city.

Unique Hotel Picks in Nicosia
- Map Boutique Hotel : A modern, highly recommended hotel in the Greek-speaking south of Nicosia. Expect friendly staff, stylish interiors, and a location that works beautifully for exploring the city on foot. Excellent if you want comfort without losing that walkable old-city feeling.

- Amyth of Nicosia : A luxurious boutique hotel in the old town of Nicosia, on the Greek-speaking side. It has been renovated with great care and feels intimate, elegant, and special. The downside? It can be expensive. The upside? Sometimes expensive places are annoyingly beautiful.

Unique Hotels in Troodos Mountains

The Troodos Mountains are Cyprus’s largest mountain range, covering a huge chunk of the island and offering a completely different side of the country. Instead of beach umbrellas and hotel buffets, we get pine forests, wine villages, monasteries, hiking trails, stone houses, and air that feels dramatically more useful.
If your itinerary allows it, spend around three nights in the Troodos Mountains. There is more to see than most people expect — and no, you will not “just pop in for an afternoon” and magically understand the region. Nice try.
- Charming mountain villages, including Omodos, Pano Lefkara, and Kakopetria.
- Excellent wineries, often in gorgeous hillside settings.
- Famous barn-roof churches, several of which are UNESCO-listed.
- Cyprus’s most important monastery: Kykkos Monastery.
- Cyprus’s highest mountain: Mount Olympus.
Unique Hotels in the Troodos Mountains
- Thymises Boutique Hotel : A charming boutique hotel with boho flair and a good location for exploring many of the Troodos highlights. The breakfast is excellent, and the on-site restaurant is a bonus if you do not want to drive winding mountain roads after dinner. Very wise. Very adult.

- The Agora Hotel : A small adults-only hideaway in the centre of Pano Lefkara. The design is gorgeous, the village setting is atmospheric, and the whole place feels like a stylish escape. Just note that Pano Lefkara is not the most practical base for exploring the deeper Troodos highlights, so book this if you want a beautiful village stay rather than a full mountain-road-trip headquarters.
