Some practical tips before your Cyprus itinerary (7 days)

Planning a week in Cyprus? Perfect. Picture an island where the beaches look edited, the sea is aggressively blue, ancient history is basically lying around in the open, and the vibe is “stay one more day” on repeat.
Cyprus—aka the island of love, aka the place that makes us consider quitting our jobs and learning how to grill halloumi for a living—serves up big landscapes, friendly locals, and sunshine that actually shows up for work. This guide is ideal for 7 days, but it’s also dangerously easy to stretch to 10 days if you want extra time for Paphos adventures or those Ayia Napa beaches that keep “accidentally” stealing your itinerary.
Logistics we swear by: rent a car. It turns Cyprus into a relaxed little road trip, and you won’t be stuck scheduling your life around transport gaps or paying more than you need to.
Timing-wise, the sweet spot is April to November—warm, mostly dry, and far more “let’s swim” than “why is it raining sideways?”
And here’s the move that saves your sanity: book your car + your stays in a few key bases like Paphos, Limassol, and Ayia Napa. They’re perfect launchpads for day trips, so you spend less time relocating and more time actually seeing the good stuff.
Non-negotiable food mission: try mezze—an entire parade of little dishes with pita (meat, fish, veggie… pick your fighter). Pair those dishes with local wine and congratulations, you’ve just upgraded your Cyprus experience from “nice trip” to “we’re emotionally attached now.”
Stage 1 of the Cyprus itinerary: Paphos
3 days recommended
What to do in Paphos?

Named the European capital of smart tourism (yes, that’s a real thing), Paphos is one of those places that makes our “just a beach week” plan collapse immediately—in the best way. The city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which basically means: history everywhere, boredom nowhere. And the best part? This stage isn’t only about Paphos town—there are loads of hidden gems scattered around the region, just waiting to hijack your schedule.
- Start in Kato Paphos and dive into one of Cyprus’s most important archaeological areas. (We’re talking “walk carefully, that’s ancient.”)
- Use this first stop to eat like you mean it: try gyros.
- Wander the center and drift toward the port for that classic seaside stroll—and don’t forget to stare dramatically at the fort.
- Make time for the Tombs of the Kings. It’s the kind of place that quietly reminds you Cyprus has been busy for a very long time.
- Go find the Edro III, a Norwegian cargo ship stranded off the coast—moody photos guaranteed.
- Need a swim break? Detour to Coral Bay. Bonus: grab a smoothie at Sea You Beach Bar on the way.
- Our real obsession: Sea Caves of Peyia for sunset. We love it. You will too. (Bring water, stay for golden hour, pretend you’re in a perfume ad.)
What to do near Paphos?

- Just outside Paphos you’ll hit Petra tou Romiou, allegedly Aphrodite’s birthplace. Legend or not, it’s properly stunning—expect wind, waves, and lots of people trying to look effortlessly mythical.
- Hop on a boat cruise with barbecue and swim in the Blue Lagoon. Yes, it’s as nice as it sounds.
- Go north to Akamas Peninsula for wild scenery, Avakas Gorge, and Lara Beach (turtles included, if you’re lucky). Heads-up: the roads can be rough—this is where a 4×4 makes life easier.
- On the way to Akamas, pause at Baths of Adonis. We like it best late in the day when the crowds thin out and it feels like an actual hidden haven.
Where to stay in Paphos?
- For a mid-range option: Kiniras Hotel in Paphos old town hits that sweet spot: central, family-run, and genuinely welcoming. There’s a traditional restaurant on-site, and the included breakfast is exactly what you want before a day of ruins + sea views. Bonus: the team is friendly, and you may even find French spoken at reception.
- For a luxury option: Leonardo Plaza Cypria Maris Beach Hotel & Spa is your “we’re doing this properly” choice—beachside, a short drive from Paphos, and set up for maximum relaxation. Think multiple restaurants, a spa, tennis courts, and rooms that feel polished and calm. If you want a stay that feels like an upgrade, this is it.
Stage 2 of the Cyprus itinerary: Limassol
1 day recommended
What to do in Limassol?
For the second stage of our one-week Cyprus road trip, we head to Limassol—a change of pace that shows you a different side of the island before we roll on toward the east. One day is enough to get a great taste, especially if you keep things focused.
- Don’t skip Kourion: an ancient city-kingdom where history and Greek mythology basically share the same postcode.
- Take it slow along Limassol Marina and then wander through Molos Park. Locals actually hang out here (always a good sign), and you’ll find plenty of places to eat when your feet start complaining.
- If you want a classic “everyone’s happy” activity, head to Fasouri Watermania Park for slides, pools, and a full reset when the heat kicks in.
What to do near Limassol?
- Escape to the Troodos Mountains—the island’s biggest mountain range—and use the cooler air as an excuse to hunt down local specialties.
- Swing by Lefkara, a beautiful artisan village known for embroidery—aka the perfect “we bought something meaningful” souvenir stop.
- Feeling sporty? Stop at Cape Aspro on the drive between Paphos and Limassol. The payoff is a breathtaking view—just know you’ll earn it with a 10 km trail.
- And yes, you can do a day trip to Nicosia. Wander the old town, cruise along Ledra Street, and for skyline views, pop up to the Shacolas Tower Museum Observatory.
Where to stay in Limassol?
- Mid-range: Pefkos City Hotel is a solid, easy choice thanks to its location near the old town. You get private rooms, breakfast included, and a pool + terrace combo that feels like a reward after a long, sunny day.
- Upscale: Open since May 2023, Nyx Hotel Limassol is made for a stylish stopover—right on the marina promenade with a gym, pool, sauna, hammam, and rooms that are properly well-designed. The cherry on top: breakfast on the terrace with Mediterranean views. Dangerous, because it makes you want to stay longer.
Stage 3 of the Cyprus itinerary: Ayia Napa
2 days recommended
What to do in Ayia Napa?

For the grand finale of our Cyprus itinerary, we roll into Ayia Napa—a seaside stop where the water is clear enough to make you suspicious, and the coastline hides more than just “party town” stereotypes. Two days gives you room to swim, explore, and still have time to do absolutely nothing (which is, frankly, part of the plan).
- The big hitter: Cape Greco. For extra wow, also look at Kamara Tou Koraka.
- Want a nature moment with a side of serotonin? Swim alongside turtles in Protaras’ Green Bay.
- Church hopping, but make it scenic: visit Profitis Ilias and Saint Nicolas.
- Beach time: cool off at Fig Tree Bay for that crystal-clear water. Or go classic with Nissi Beach—and if you want something a bit calmer, Konnos Beach is a strong contender.
- If the Sea Caves near Paphos slipped through your fingers, no panic—there are also sea caves in Ayia Napa too.
- For something different, walk through the Sculpture Park—outdoor art spread across more than 20,000 m².
- Yes, Ayia Napa does nightlife. If you want a lively, easy option, try Senior Frog’s.
- For a fun evening wander, hit Luna Park after dark—good atmosphere, guaranteed.
What to do near Ayia Napa?
- About 45 km away, Larnaca is an easy detour. Check out the salt lake and take a stroll along the Finikoudes promenade.
Where to stay in Ayia Napa?
- Mid-range option: the New Famagusta is a practical, well-placed final base—just a few hundred meters from the beach and around a 10-minute walk to the center. The facilities are solid, and the staff tends to get great feedback.
- For a more luxurious stay: Nissi Beach Resort sits near famous Nissi Beach and nails that “tropical escape” feeling—lush setting, pools, gym, restaurants, and a stay that feels like a proper treat. Also: the breakfast deserves special applause.
